Jack Petchey 'Speak Out Challenge 2023'
Twenty-four students from Year 10 were invited to participate in this year’s Jack Petchey ‘Speak Out Challenge’. On the 11th of January, the students took part in an all-day workshop. The workshop, led by Fiona from ‘The Speakers Trust’, showed the students how to structure an impactful, meaningful speech as well as encouraging them to speak passionately about topics which they strongly believe in.
Our students were given the opportunity to really think about what is important to them, how they want to be perceived by the world and what their one wish for the future would be. Despite some initial nerves, by the end of the workshop it was clear that our students had excelled themselves and had not only represented our school in the best possible way but had also represented themselves beautifully as well.
Fiona, our speech expert, commented on how she had never attended a workshop where there were so many articulate candidates to choose from to progress to the next round, so, chose six students to progress their speeches. These six students will now develop their speeches and Mrs Beazeley and Miss Scott will have the difficult task of picking one student to represent The Boswells School at the Quarter Final in March. It was a day filled with enthusiasm and determination, thank you to all the students that took part!
